Portuguese text to speech

Portuguese is one language and two production decisions. Two of the demos below are Brazilian and two are European, each labelled, so you can hear which one your audience actually speaks before you commit a project to it.

Different registers. One language.

Storytelling, teaching, announcing and plain conversation — four of the jobs most scripts actually are. Every clip prints its script beside the audio, so you can check the reading against the text.

One language. Two continents.

Two of the clips below are Brazilian, two are European, and each card says which. The announcement and the conversation are the same job in both variants, so the words that actually differ - guião against roteiro, ficheiro against arquivo - land where you can hear them.

Brazilian or European Portuguese? Produce in the one your audience speaks: listeners notice the wrong variant immediately, well before they notice a voice is synthetic. Play the four clips below and the difference is obvious within a sentence.

A história começa num vilarejo onde a luz caía toda tarde. Ninguém reclamava muito: era no escuro que as melhores conversas aconteciam.

What to listen for in Portuguese

Brazilian and European Portuguese are far enough apart in rhythm, vowel reduction and everyday vocabulary that listeners notice the wrong one immediately — well before they notice a voice is synthetic. European Portuguese reduces unstressed vowels so heavily that the same sentence is audibly shorter, and half the working vocabulary of a script diverges: guião against roteiro, ficheiro against arquivo, sítio against lugar. The announcement and conversation clips below are the same job in both variants, which is the fastest way to hear it.

FAQ

Portuguese text to speech: Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question? Check out our frequently asked questions to find your answer.

How natural is AI Portuguese text to speech?

Judge it on the awkward parts rather than the smooth ones. Sentence-final intonation, numbers, and where the breath lands are what give synthetic reads away. Every Portuguese clip on this page prints its script beside the audio so you can check the reading against the text instead of the general impression.

Can I convert text to Portuguese speech for free?

You can listen to everything on this page without an account, and the free plan lets you generate your own Portuguese audio to try it. Paid plans remove the watermark and the length cap, and clear the output for commercial use.

Can the same voice speak Portuguese and English?

Yes — the Studio voices are multilingual, so a voice you cast for an English script can carry the same project into Portuguese without recasting. That is what keeps a brand or a course sounding like itself across markets.

Can I use Portuguese AI voice output commercially?

Yes. Output is 100% cleared for commercial use on any purchased plan, covering ads, client work, monetised video, courses and published audio.

Can I dub an existing video into Portuguese?

Yes. Upload the video and it can be transcribed, translated and re-voiced in Portuguese, with the timing preserved. You review the translation before anything is generated, which is the step one-click dubbing tools skip.

Do I get Portuguese subtitles and a transcript too?

Yes. Captions and a transcript export alongside the audio from the same project, so a Portuguese version ships accessible and searchable rather than as an audio file on its own.

What is the difference between Brazilian and European Portuguese text to speech?

The audible differences are vowel reduction and rhythm: European Portuguese compresses unstressed vowels so the same sentence runs shorter and denser, while Brazilian Portuguese keeps them open. Vocabulary diverges too — guião against roteiro, ficheiro against arquivo. The announcement and conversation demos on this page are the same script in both variants so you can compare directly.

Which Portuguese variant should I use?

Use the one your audience speaks, not the one with more speakers. Brazil is the far larger market, but a Brazilian read to a Portuguese audience reads as foreign content, and the reverse is worse. If you are shipping to both, produce both from the same script — it is one project, not two.
